Utrecht University is celebrating its 380th anniversary with UUnited Music Festival
On Thursday 31 March 2016, Utrecht University is pulling out all the stops to celebrate its 380th anniversary with the UUnited Music Festival. During this music festival, which cuts across all genres of music and brings together all corners of the University, more than 400 music-loving students, staff and alumni will flood the halls of TivoliVredenburg.
With its eight music ensembles, Utrecht is among the most versatile and musical student cities in the Netherlands. Each music ensemble (Utrechtsch Studenten Concert, Dekoor Close Harmony, Utrechts Studenten Koor en Orkest, De Utrechtse Studenten Bigband, Medusa, Utrechtse Studenten Cantorij, Het Huisorkest and Het Kunstorkest) has been enticed into joining up with leading names from the Dutch music scene. Crossovers in styles will set the tone with guest artists like saxophonist Benjamin Herman, presenter Arjen Lubach, arranger Merlijn Twaalfhoven, city poet laureate Ingmar Heytze, pianist and singer Ruben Hein and cellist Maarten Vos.
The festival programme is being boosted with performances by bands made up of staff and alumni of Utrecht University and by student music ensembles from across the Dutch border. The festival will be concluded in TivoliVredenburg’s Grote Zaal by none other than The Handsome Poets. UUnited is guaranteed to be a vibrant celebration of music that embraces the musicality of Utrecht University.
In 2016, Utrecht University is celebrating its 76th lustrum: 380 Years Bright Minds, Better Future. The programme is being organised in collaboration with students, staff, alumni, and local and regional partners: Create, Connect & Celebrate! Visit the lustrum's website. UUnited Music Festival is part of the lustrum anniversary programme.
